My holiday progress...just a peak!

Hello friends! It's back to the grind, ye haw!
This is my favorite time, right in the middle of the holidays with Christmas a few weeks away. I love to bring out all the Christmas decorations, so for the past three days I have been fully committed to making my home warm and cozy. Let me tell you, I am worn slap out.
I took a few quick shots before it got too dark yesterday.

Let me tell you what you're in for, a load of DIY ideas, many many spray painted items, easy money saving solutions, and tons of Christmas cheer!

Give the gift of....

ART!!

Hey friends. I got busy again. Gosh, I hate it when I get pulled away from you guys.
I started my Christmas shopping recently, and let me just say I'm thinking giving art is such a special way to go!
Now I've picked a few that I liked... from chic fashion illustration to quirky animal art.

All of these little babes are from Etsy, but here are the sellers from left to right.

1 2 3 4 5 6

I can't find the sellers for 4 and 5, it's like they just disappeared! If you really like one, just let me know and I'll hunt the artist down.

Color Moods: Aqua and Red..a true love story!

Aqua and red are two colors that LOVE to be together! In fact my master bedroom was completely inspired by this first room from House Beautiful. These two colors when paired with a neutral background create such a romantic and inviting environment. I've also brought in white and yellow, these two work great with aqua and red.

That makes me want to curl up and take a good looonng nap, actually anything at 7:30 am on Monday makes me want to curl up and sleep!!!

Let me know what your thinking about this color combo..and what other colors do you think would match up well with red and aqua?

Make it your own: Angie Hranowsky style

Good laud, (that's what my kids say) this was one tough "make it your own" search. It took me two days, granted I worked on it whenever I had a free minute or two!
I've always loved this room by Angie Hranowsky, it has the perfect mix of colors and texture!

Isn't it just gorgeous (I try to do the "cool" thing and shorten my words like other bloggers, like instead of gorgeous I would say "gorg"..but I just can't do it..I feel like I'm trying too hard!)

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9.

(the chair that I have listed can be painted white)
A few extras that wouldn't fit....

This pendant shade is probably the same exact one from Circa Lighting. Insert arm and leg! If your crafty and really want this look, I say buy a similar shade, get some gold flashing (for the inside of the shade) and swing by Lowe's and grab a light electrical kit to put it all together!
I left out the dining room table and rug, because I searched and couldn't find anything online, but I'm sure you could find a similar table at a vintage or antique store.

What do you think, please share some other sources for rugs and lighting!!

My DIY two-toned buffet

I was a busy lady this weekend. I got some serious DIY fever! Love it when that happens. My dining room buffet was becoming such an eye sore to me, it just wasn't special. I really love the look of two toned furniture that's been popping up lately, and figured this is exactly what my sad little buffet needed.

Here's the before and after:

I added new tortoise knobs to make that gray really pop. Yeah it's gray, it just doesn't show in these pictures.

I have been complaining for two years about not having outlets in the dining room (its an old home). I love the look a few lamps give to a dining room. Well, when I moved the buffet away from the wall, low and behold, there was an OUTLET! Let me tell, I never knew an outlet could make someone so happy! How did I not see it? I really think God might have put it there!
I had an old emerald green lamp I bought from Goodwill, so I gave it some fresh blue paint (that ties the blue from the living room rug into the dining room).

I love the little feet on this guy.

Oh, and thats not all I did this weekend! I'm not going to show it all at once, I don't want to overwhelm you with my amazingness!

(That's a joke.)

Have any of you noticed two toned furniture lately, do you have great links that you'd like to share?

Color Moods: Inspired by fall

Where we live, we are right in the thick of fall weather and changing leaves. We've been here for two years now, and I haven't seen the trees this colorful! I really love the colors of fall, they remind me of home... my mom is such a fall person, she may not realize it, but all the colors in our home were warm tones of rust, browns, and yellows. When it comes to gifts, she loves anything with "acorns and leaves".  She's a fall lady.
Anyhow, I love the type of yellow that surrounds us in the fall. It's such a great accent color to add a jolt of energy to a room... you can use just a dab or fill the room up with it.... here's some rooms that use yellow perfectly.

Make it your own: House of Fifty

I'm really loving the new House of Fifty magazine.
Have you seen it? You should definitely check it out!

My favorite was Saudah Saleem, she created her
own "closet" out of her old master bedroom. I love the mix of items in this room
from the pendant drum shade to the chevron inspired rug, and the mix of vintage and modern.
Sometimes we (I) look at rooms, drool over them, sometimes store
them as inspiration and move on, but I would
really like to find similar peices that are in the room (on a less expensive scale)
and share them with you! It's actually simple, and with a few adjustments
you can easily get the same look!
This is Saudah's room...

And here are similar peices....

Table: West Elm
Pendant drum shade (Looks exactly the same to me!): Bellacor
Bookshelves: Ikea

Side table: Crate and Barrel

Chevron rug: Amazon ($109..people you can't bet it!)

Class it up with a few Fashion Illustrations, I found these on Pinterest.

I would search through your local antique stores and Craiglist for vintage settees and chairs, that's where I always find mine, and for great deals!
