Guest Post: Design Shuffle

Hey friends, Im a little ashamed that this is my first post  (guest post) of the week. I just finished up a graduate course and had to get a BIG assignment done. Im excited, we have Mari from a great site called Design Shuffle, to share some gray and yellow inspiration. Two colors that are, in my opinion, perfect together.

Hi, everyone! It's Mari, a writer from Design Shuffle a fabulous site that brings together designers and design lovers to showcase projects and share interior design inspiration. I'm so excited to be visiting Design Blooms as a guest blogger. Today's post is about a lovely color combination—gray and yellow. It is said that opposites attract and that is surely true of a gray and yellow palette. As you'll see, together the color of sunshine and a stormy neutral can make a stunning impact from the front door to the bath and everywhere in between. I hope these beautiful spaces will inspire lots of interior design ideas for you. Enjoy!

Colorful front doors offer a glimpse into what is to come inside a home. This deep sunny yellow is a perfect punch of color against the gray painted exterior. Wouldn't you love to step through this door?

Gray and Yellow

From pale yellow on the wall and sofa pillow to the deep golden velvet on the chaise lounge, the contrast with pale grays is lovely and makes for a comfortable and inviting feel in this living space.

This bright happy space has become one of my favorite eat-in kitchen designs. The gray and black of the wallpaper and over-cabinet storage work beautifully with the shiny yellow cabinets and pendant lights over the table.

A gray wall with golden accents and a deep yellow sofa with dark gray decorative pillows create appealing visual impact in this contemporary living room. I love the texture on the pillows and unexpected shapes of the shelves.

Tall windows draped in yellow-trimmed gray and yellow floral panels are a gorgeous background for eclectic furnishings and accessories. Touches of blue are interesting additions to this interior design. Is this stunning space stirring up any living room ideas?

A gray and golden yellow color palette is a lovely choice for a modern living room. Chunky stone lamp, soft velvet upholstery and interesting patterned textiles bring this room together elegantly.

Sunny accents bring this gray and black cotemporary bedroom to life. I'm smitten by that amazing faux fur throw. What lovely decorating ideas this bedroom inspires!

A deep yellow barn door is a bold choice to separate this yellow and gray bedroom from the adjoining bath. I love that oval stand-alone tub and gray wall in the bathroom.

Guest Post: 6th Street Design School

We're wrapping up the week with a wonderful etsy roundup from one of our favorite bloggers....Kirsten from 6th Street Design School. I've so enjoyed Kirsten's blog, she does a wonderful job at finding all the wonderful things out there in the design world and bringing it to us! I'm SO excited to have her here today sharing some more of her great finds!

I love Christmas trees and the feeling that they bring to winter. There is something so magical about a tree with a layer of fresh snow on it. They make you feel like you really are in a Winter Wonderland. Here are a few of my favorite trees found on etsy.

Bromeliad and a Guest Post

I tell you what, Samantha from Bromeliad has got it going on! She's clever and she's in the know, two great combinations. Bromeliad was one of the first blogs that I began following, so I felt it only right to have her guest post during this celebration week. She's sharing a few wise tips on overnight hosting for the holidays! This is so needed!

We are entering one of the busiest travel seasons of the year, which means you may be called upon to host overnight guests. So, while you're hiding the thigh master under the bed and stripping the shower of any mold in preparation for visitors, consider the following.

Designers, decorators, organizers and various clever people have good ideas for how to host your guests in sumptious quarters. But many of us don't have the time, resources or space to be so fancy.

For example, I happen to live in a popular destination (New York) in a small apartment (less than 500 square feet). We've had up to four people at once staying with us in our little place. (Fortunately they were former Bosnian refugees and were pretty game about wall-to-wall people sleeping on the floor. I, on the other hand, was a wreak.) Sometimes you just have to do the best you can.

Here's how the advice stacks up:

The Decorati:
Provide a guest room.

Reality:
Who has a guest room? You don't have any room. If this is the case, consider a curtain for privacy. Or taking turns dressing and undressing in a closet. If crowding is a serious issue, take a long walk and don't come home until the guests are gone.

The Decorati:
Don't use the guest room for storage

Reality:
See point above. If you are fortunate enough to actually have a spare room, stow your junk and squeeze in a bed. See next point.

Decorati:
Dress the guest bed in Belgian linen

Reality:
Provide a bed. Sleeping on the floor is OK. Make sure the floor is clean. Make up the air mattress or whatever it is you've got with clean and comfortable sheets. Fluff the pillows. It's fun. It's like camping.

The Decorati:
Provide your guests with bottled Perrier on a bedside table

Reality:
Provide your guests with a bedside table (assuming there is a bed.)
And then don't put anything on it. Your guests will have junk everywhere. They need tables. Clear off most surfaces in the bedroom and the bathroom so people have places to put their stuff.

Decorati:
Let your guests snuggle up in an organic faux fur

Reality:
Keep your pets off the guests. Not everybody loves shedding licking barking meowling flatulent creatures like you do. Not that I have any personal feelings on this.

Decorati:
Provide slippers and a bathrobe.

Reality:
Provide a nightlight so nobody breaks their neck shuffling off to the cluttered bathroom in borrowed slippers.

Happy hosting!

One year Celebration-Flourish Design and Style!

I am so excited about this week! It's been so fun this past year starting my blog, meeting so many GREAT people, getting excited about discovering new blogs, and finding endless amounts of inspiration! I look forward to many more years with Design Blooms!
I'm starting this week with the amazing Sarah, who always has great things to share! Stick around today and the rest of the week for giveaways and special guests!

Hi everyone! I'm Sarah from Flourish Design and Style here to wish a happy one year anniversary to the lovely Nicole and Design Blooms! Thanks so much for letting me celebrate with you!

I thought I would share three ideas I am planning in my home for the holiday season..

First, this blue and white ginger jar is going to get a grouping of fresh cut boughs-

I am picking up my paper whites right away to get them started. There are so many fabulous containers to put them in, this year I want glass cylinders!

I love simple decorations. This vignette below is using shells instead of ornaments in vases and jars.. I love the mix with the ornate lamps and a hint of green in the background-

What's your holiday decorating style?
xoxo

Thanks so much Sarah!!
