Designer Crush

Mayme Baker.
I've had a big crush on this lady's work for a while now, and she just added some more pictures to her portfolio, so I had to share!

Mayme Baker Studios is right around down the road from me in Greenville, SC and Mayme has also been featured in the Fall issue of House of Fifty!
She's a real sassy designer and her interiors are so fun....

This is one of my favorite..check out that ceiling, it's gorgeous, especially paired with the yellow and white striped walls.

 

I think what I really love about these rooms is the amazing use of layering and color. There's a ton of color but it works!

 

What about you, how do you feel about all the color and layers of texture in the rooms? Too much?

Designer Spotlight

Let's get this Sunday started off with a lovely designer spotlight. I really like finding designers that truly inspire me, they give me ideas, and basically create rooms that are just nice to look at!  

I came across Katie of Katie Dunham Interiors. Take a look for yourself, then I will share with you what I like about her work.

You may ask, how can I make something like this in my home? Easy, here's what you do: spend a little time on CraigsList, it may take a while to find the perfect chairs, but keep looking. Once you find them, sand them down and paint them the color you want, then sand them again to give them the "old weathered" look. And for the the table...if your thrifty and DIY savvy, check out this idea, for the base, and for the table top, I think glass or a high gloss painted wood might look great!

I have to get my hands on one of those driftwood spheres!!

Those lights are amazing! I think bringing in a variety of lighting adds so much more interest to a space!

I like the four small pendant lights over the island. I'm sure this adds a better dimension of lighting instead of just one spotlight in the middle. 

Check out the shelving over the windows. I love this and instead of using glass cabinets or a china cabinet, the shelves are easy to do, and bring your eyes up, adding height. 

I just wouldn't add anything too dark, stick with white or clear glassware. 

Also, there's no room for overhead lights over the sink, so she added lights on the side of the windows. 

What else do you see about her design work that's inspiring?

A silver rocker?

Sorry for the absence, I'm taking a graduate course that is kicking my butt! I did find time to sneak in an hour of "me time" on Saturday and visited an amazing vintage store in Greenville. I found a rocker that's very similar to the one Lee Kleinhelter used in her nursery. I'm debating whether to get it or not..it's LESS than $100!

Speaking of Lee...let's look at some of her amazing rooms.

Which plate do you use?!

I have to say this one is my favorite by far... something about that blue and orange mixed with natural jute, just love it!

Here's my question for you moms out there, and dads! (I'm not pregnant) But I am trying to shop ahead for the nursery so I won't have to buy it all at once. Do you really need a cozy, upholstered rocker, or would the silver, sleek, really awesome rocker like Lee's do the trick?

Designer Spotlight: Lulu DK

Lulu De Kwiatkowski. Her style is so fresh, I love just staring at the rooms that she designs. She grew up in the Hamptons and the Bahamas, and you can clearly see thats were she gets her inspiration from, along with her travels through India, Morocco, Europe, and Peru.

She carries a wonderful line of fabrics, bed linens, and wallpaper as well.

Stylist Designer Spotlight

Okay...Mrs. Lilien. I really like this girl. She's not a "designer" as in interior designer, but a style designer. She makes things look good...really good! You can learn A LOT from a good stylist. Colors that look good together, textures that add visual interest..they are magicians at putting a beautiful picture together.

Designer Spotlight: Ol' Timothy

This is Timothy.....

He's an interior magician. Timothy Whealon. You might have already heard of him, if you read Elle decor, Veranda, House Beautiful, or Domino, you've definitely seen his work. How does he do it? He stirs in a little classicism, throws in a few sprigs of 21st Century pizazz, and voila you have his perfectly blended modern and timeless delights!

This is my favorite....kiss of pink, and I love how he paired the furniture! I'm going to call him and ask if I can have that white dresser.

Designer Spotlight: Lulu Powers

Do you remember this little lady from the cover of Lonny? Her name is Lulu Powers, and she's packed with some major entertaining talent! 

Some pointers from Lulu on hosting:

Pour wine from a decanter instead of a bottle 

Say "yes" when someone asks if they can help

Use the layer method when setting the table (dinner plate, salad plate, napkin and finish with a sprig of greenery or a cinnamon stick)

Relax, if you are stressed everyone else will feel the same way

I always admired this event, but never realized that it was designed by Lulu!

Love those drinks pilled high in the sink!
