Color Moods: Emerald Green!!

Hey there! I hope your Monday is going better than mine! I'm starting the week off with a very beautiful Color Mood, and one that is dear to my heart, emerald green. If you've been delving in the design scene within the past few months, you've probably seen emerald green (and pink) making a big hit for 2011. If not..maybe I'm crazy..and that possibly could be the case. Anyhow, I truly love this rich color! It adds a specific drama to a room thats hard to get with any other green.

I love the depth that emerald green offers in nature...

This is such a fun mural...I love the character that it adds to this office.

If an emerald wall is too much, you can add it as an accent color in a room.

Looks SO crisp with white!

Are things turning green near you?! I love that spring has come early..although it might get blown away in a few hours, with this big storm coming in!

Featured on The Nest!

It's nice to get noticed every once in a while...I got an email this morning informing me that my Island Starburst Mirror was featured on their website. How great and I didn't even have to do any begging!

Here's the mirror that was featured in case you haven't seen it...

I love The Nest, they offer so many great resources for your home, and the link to the feature is here.

Have a great Friday!!

Furniture Art

I've been brainstorming for new ideas for artwork. Do you ever get in those moods, when you just really want to create some artwork? I like this idea of furniture art... think I'm going to do it...with cute chairs and a couch with a pretty pattern.
Can you spot the mouse?

The "other" space in your home

If you live in the southern portion of the States, you've already started welcoming in spring. I wince every time I watch the weather on the news, thinking they're going to announce that it's going to be cold again...but so far so good. The trees and flowers have started to bud...I love this part...right before everything blossoms.
Anyhow...we should consider our yard just as much as any other room in the house. The outdoor space.
The past few nights we've been able to sit on our back porch and talk about all the things we need to do to our yard...besides the basic trimming and sprucing of the yard.  There are many other small things that can be done that make great impacts, and will make you smile when you look out into your yard or pull into your driveway.

Like these....

This could be so easy... dig out a section of your yard that you would like to designate as a patio or path, lay pavers and plant grass in between. (Im hoping my husband will read this!)
I so want to add an arbor to our garage... it can't be that hard to do. (:

I have been obsessed with this fun grass for a while now. This spring I'm going to put some in our yard!
Paint your door a fun color, you wouldn't believe what an impact it gives to a house.
Swing bed in a sun room.. nothing better than this.

Gorgeous... are you feeling inspired? I would love to know what kind of things you have planned for your outdoor spaces!

New Etsy pillow shop infactuation

Durn, I wish I has some amazing excuse for not blogging the past FIVE days, but I am drawing a blank! I think I have the case of the "in-betweens" like Janell from Isabella and Max Rooms was talking about last week.  I have a few projects up my sleeve at the moment, they should be complete within the next few days, and I am really excited about showing them off! So I have been busy, just not blogging busy. I've been searching around for a lumbar pillow for our couch and came across an amazing etsy shop, Turquoise Tumbleweed, from the little ole' state of South Carolina.
She is my new favorite!

Paint and Trim Guide

A friend emailed me recently and asked me to give her some advice on painting trim and how to pair it with the wall color. I thought this would be good information to share with the rest of you. As most things go in the world of design there is no set RULE on paint colors and trim colors. However there are always colors that compliment each other and work better than others.
I've always approached the rooms that I've painted with the same trim color carried throughout the house. Again, this is not a rule... it's just my taste, to have at least on color connecting all the rooms. (I will post later about how to make a home flow)

Here are some great examples of pairing trim and wall colors.

I love this look of painting the walls and trim the same color. Looks best when its a warm neutral color.

Okay, when painting trim darker than the walls, it looks best when the walls are a neutral color so the trim and walls aren't competing with each other. Again.. not a rule, just more pleasing this way. (and you don't have to do every room in the house this way.. see how the entry way beyond is painted white?)

Wood trim...my in-laws have a lake house and the wall colors are neutral and their trim is a natural stained honey colored wood..and it looks great. It gives it a "rustic" look.

You can also go with neutral walls with a slightly darker neutral trim. Love this look as well. Its subtle but it does make a statement. (Again, notice that the trim in the next room over is lighter)

You don't always have to resort to white trim. This room has beautiful sunny blue walls with a champagne color trim. And it works!

I hope this helps! If you have any questions about exact color matching for trim and wall, just send me an email, I'd be happy to help! ntmdesignblooms@gmail.com

Color Moods: Ole' Navy

I don't know about you, but I hate it when my real job gets in the way of my blogging! The sad thing is as I wrote that I meant it as a joke, but I realized that I'm kind of serious. But luckily I found an extra few minutes to add in a Color Moods post...and I couldn't be more in love with this color-heck, it was THE color in my wedding, along with aqua and yellow, and it's one of the accent colors in our bedroom.

Navy, here's to you!

I think my favorite has to be navy paired with neutrals, how about you? Whats a great color to use with navy in a space?

Craigslist City Cearch: Boston!!

Are there any Boston people out there?! I went to your city on Craigslist and found some great things for you. There were many many things, but I only picked the really good priced items. All under $125.
(Boston people must love their chairs because there wasn't much in the chair department)

Wouldn't this chair look so perfect in a more modern setting by an entryway table?

Lots of potential in those dressers ladies!

The weather is about to start getting real nice down here in the south..so I'm looking forward to a beautiful weekend, grilling..painting, and playing outside. How about you?

Blog Love: The Goodwill King!

For a while (until two days ago), Will and I were living pretty much on one salary. So I have learned (Will may disagree) how to penny pinch, and shop for bargains for the home. We were going over all our furniture recently, and pretty much all except a few pieces were steals from goodwill, or craigslist, or markets.
I LOVE to see people making amazing homes on a budget..and I have found the KING of Goodwill Hunting. He actually calls himself Mr. Goodwill Hunting
Here's what his nifty blog has to offer...

Fold out tray that he painted and turned into a coffee table..clever!

Must say I am in love... and it seems that he will be a guest on the Nate Show. Well done Mr. Goodwill Hunting!!
