I was contacted a few weeks ago by Emily from Arcadian Home, requesting to write a guest post. This is a really good one, she's showing us ways to decorate a room around one piece. I think we can all learn a thing or two from this guest post! I'm so glad Emily stepped in because my body and brain have checked out for the weekend. I have a cold or the flu that is kicking my butt! Is the flu going around?
Oh well, I hope all of you are having a wonderful holiday weekend!
(Oh, p.s., Jennifer is the one writing the post)
Hi all! I'm Jennifer and I write for Arcadian Home Decor. I've been writing about home decor since graduating university and have loved it ever since. I'm addicted to patterned fabrics, Jonathan Adler, chaise lounges, old doors, milk glass jars, antiques, and chandeliers. Design Blooms is bookmarked on my computer - I visit almost daily, and I'm delighted to be able to guest post here today.
One of the easiest and more straightforward ideas is building decor around one main piece. Whether it's wall art or a particular item of furniture, building decor around one main piece can help create a specific colour palette, style, and overall feel to a space. Looking for some inspiration? Hopefully these eight chic rooms will whet that decorating appetite.
An accent wall
Patterned wallpaper such as this provides the perfect backdrop for a sunny space - the colours are picked up in the throw cushions and budding
An ornate mod chandelier such as this becomes the centrepiece of the dining room - the circular shape and gold detailing is mimicked in the furniture and adjacent wall sconces.
Boasting vibrant hues is where the eye is immediately focused. The low minimalist furniture gives centre stage to the artwork.
What's more striking than this wood slat wall, which extends from floor to ceiling? The bedroom doesn't need any additional home accessories - it's stand-alone stylish.
A contemporary chandelier in a streamlined kitchen mixes beauty with function - the glass crystals match the glassware displayed on the shelf, and the stainless steel is used in both the light fixture base along with the countertops.
A bathtub
The perfect focal point in a luxurious bathroom is an oversized tub like this one - the wood vanity in the background is accentuated by the knit wall tapestry.
A brick wall
Exposed brick is a stunning detail in a bedroom - it lends a tough organic feel to the space. Flecks of red found in the bricks can also be seen in the pillows.
Chairs piled high with books makes for an interesting entrance way. The gold accents on the furniture are copied in the wall art as well as the light fixture.

Love exposed brick too, in fact I'm in the process of putting a small addition on our home and I'm leaving the brick exposed in the new rooms, which will be my sons bedroom and our family room...seriously can't wait although it's going to take awhile.
I liked the patterned wall paper. It looks cool during summer. But what about winter season. Do you strip that off?? It can look odd during such season. Also the chair in the last picture looks nice. But not with the books.
Nikki - love your blog :) The accent wall you posted is from my good friend's apartment! We used to have small group over there, so fun!
I must admire you for sharing these grate images.
First one is so interesting and beautiful and multi purpose that you can use it as bed and sofa as well.
