Blog Love: Mrs. Oakey

Guess what?! I'm in love with another blog! There so many out there, it is just so hard to pick one each week, but I have to say I am really loving Danielle Oakey's blog. What is the deal with Utah and awesome bloggers, it's a little weird don't ya think? I think they have some secret blog university going on or something. I'm going to look into that.
Anyhow, Danielle knows all about decorating on a small budget, so her blog offers some wonderful diy ideas for your home. She has a good eye for mixing textures and pattern,  she's going to be very successful, I can tell!

Oh, and did I mention her precious little girl, Emory? She's got style!

May I recommend...

Some fabric? Fabric.com should seriously start paying me for all these references I keep giving them, but until I find somewhere better, I'll keep spreading the word. (By the way..if you know of any great fabric websites, let me know!)

Hope these fabrics inspire a new project!

Designer Spotlight: Ol' Timothy

This is Timothy.....

He's an interior magician. Timothy Whealon. You might have already heard of him, if you read Elle decor, Veranda, House Beautiful, or Domino, you've definitely seen his work. How does he do it? He stirs in a little classicism, throws in a few sprigs of 21st Century pizazz, and voila you have his perfectly blended modern and timeless delights!
See for yourself!

This is my favorite....kiss of pink, and I love how he paired the furniture! I'm going to call him and ask if I can have that white dresser.

Isn't he grand?

Let me know what you like or don't like about it....

Back with Color Moods

Sorry I disappeared. Between the road and spending time with family.. I lost time for blogging.
I think I have been inspired by all this chilly winter weather we've received lately.
Warning: You might want to wrap up in a warm blanket before you stroll through these winter white pictures.

Black is always a good accent for white.

(Images courtesy of Elle decor, Sugar Monster, Rosenatti
If you want to start with white on your walls or even furniture, here are some recommended colors:

• 912 Linen White, Benjamin Moore
• 2003 Pointing, Farrow & Ball
• SW6385 Dover White, Sherwin-Williams
• 7002-6 Du Jour, Valspar
• 0001 Hollandlac Brilliant White, Fine Paints of Europe
In our home we started with warmer, richer colors on the walls and then brought in white accents through accessories, and some furniture.

Any other suggestions for using white in a home?

Designer Spotlight: Lulu Powers

Do you remember this little lady from the cover of Lonny? Her name is Lulu Powers, and she's packed with some major entertaining talent!
Some pointers from Lulu on hosting:
Pour wine from a decanter instead of a bottle
Say "yes" when someone asks if they can help
Use the layer method when setting the table (dinner plate, salad plate, napkin and finish with a sprig of greenery or a cinnamon stick)
Relax, if you are stressed everyone else will feel the same way

I always admired this event, but never realized that it was designed by Lulu!

Love those drinks pilled high in the sink!

Look her up, if you didn't find enough here... and find inspiration for you holiday hosting!

On the road...

We're going to be doing a looooottt of driving, this Christmas week. We're headed out early this morning for a gala event tonight in Charleston (my Christmas gift to Will), I was going to wear this but the "overnight" isn't getting here until tomorrow which is definitely too late, so we're off a little early to do some dress shopping (fine by me!)

My husband's two amazing talents... shagging -yes that's dancing (;- and wrapping gifts.

See you back here tomorrow with a designer spotlight!

Blog Love's: Simply Seductive

I love feeling seductive (for my husband!), fashion, design, and beautiful pictures. So when I found Simply Seductive 's blog, I felt right at home. Her stylish eye for design is impeccable. Her blog focuses on interiors, shoes, color inspiration, travel, and fashion editorials, and states she "dreams of being a glamorous nomad living in a custom-decor airstream." I was so pleasantly pleased to find her blog (someone I admire told me they HATED the word excited, so I'm trying my best not to use it!)

I want to take a picture like this and put it in our room!

Love this blog..anyone else following Simply Seductive?

Designer Spotlight

After attending Lavish this weekend I learned a lot about my blog, do's and don'ts, and new things I want to bring to Design Blooms. My first goal is to create a weekly schedule. I'll be introducing three new post ideas, I'm going to try them out, see how it goes.
Here's my schedule:
Monday-Color Moods
Tuesday-Designer Spotlight (new)
Wednesday-Product References (new)
Thursday-Blog Love's
Friday-Craig's List City Search (new)
(Friday's may also feature my home projects or client projects)

I would LOVE feedback...so let me hear it.

My Designer in the spotlight today is Ginger Brewton of Ginger Brewton Interiors, she has truly inspired me in choices I have made for my home and a powder room I painted for my sister-in-law...you can see here. Her comment,  "Don’t be afraid to use bold patterns or dark colors in small rooms, such as the powder room.... create a cozy, warm feeling – like a jewel box.", gave me the idea to paint the walls turquoise and add gold medallion stencils along the wall...like a jewelry box!

I enjoyed dissecting these interiors...for instance, I love the long linen curtains paired with pops of bright pink, and the red coral and green combo. Find anything you love as well?

Color Moods and a giveaway winner!!

Absence makes the heart grow fonder right? Okay, good.

I've got three colors for ya..... sage green, gray, and sweet coral! This is a beautiful color combo.... but does it leave you wanting more? Like more substance? When you pair softer shades in a room it's always good to finalize it with that explanation point color. Look at these images below... they use these colors but always add in a darker tone to weigh it down.

Do see the heavy colors? Black, aqua, deep purple, yellow, and brown. All great pairings.

Any other suggestions for these combos?

Three Blooms paper tree giveaway winner? Velvet Dawn of Suitcase Vignettes!!
Congrats girl...I will contact you for shipping info!
